Mary Lightner

Founder / Managing Partner

Mary is a licensed trainer from an esteemed, long standing thoroughbred family based in Williston, Florida. The Lightner family owns and operates their farm in Williston and break and train yearlings at Oakridge Training Center to ready young horses for their racing careers. Mary, her father Mike are active participants at the sales and also have a burgeoning broodmare division.

Mary established Shooting Star Thoroughbreds with the awareness that there is a growing interest and passion for thoroughbred ownership. The syndicate affords the access and opportunity of ownership at a reasonable price point and engages individuals with a curious interest to make their dream become a reality. Experiencing the thrill and excitement of ownership and the ability to share in those moments within a racing community and other like-minded members is the cornerstone of Mary's vision for Shooting Star Thoroughbreds.

Managing Partner

Lisa, a dedicated thoroughbred owner and passionate racing enthusiast, plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations at Shooting Star Thoroughbreds. After retiring from her thirty-year career in education, where she served as a middle school principal, teacher, and high school coach, Lisa found herself immersed in the world of horse business. Over the past seven years, she has developed a profound connection with the industry, expressing her genuine admiration for the competitive nature and exhilaration that the horse racing business offers.
